MOV ESC Driver's Training Program
MOV ESC Driver's Training Program
Thank you for inquiring about the MOV ESC Driver's Training Program in partnership with Sheridan High School. SHS students that are 15 1/2 years or older are eligible for the program. Once a student has received their permit, they may apply to begin the MOV ESC Driver's Training Program. For the online coursework and the 8 hours of instructed driving time, the cost is $350. For students who have already completed the online coursework and only need to complete the 8 hours of instructed driving time, the cost is $300. The online portion will be on the student's own time. In addition, our driving instructors would like students to complete at least 35 hours of driving time with a parent/guardian prior to scheduling the instructed driving times.
There are two parts needed to enroll your student for the class which includes the enrollment paperwork and payment online for the online coursework and/or 8 hours of instructed driving time. A $100 deposit must be made when enrolling the student for the online coursework and driving time program with the rest of the fee being due before the driving hours begin. Students must have the online coursework completed and a copy of the certificate of completion of the online coursework must be turned into Mrs. Stockler before they can begin the 8 hours of instructed driving time. Students that need to only complete the 8 hours of instructed driving time will need to pay for the $300 fee in one payment prior to beginning the driving hours. Currently, driving hours are set up for after school hours and Saturday mornings using our driver's training car. If there is a day that we do not have school according to the school calendar, driving times could take place in the morning. There is also a maneuverability course that is set up at the back of the school that students can practice on at any time.
All driving sessions will start/end at the front of Sheridan High School using our driving school car. Students will need to remember to have their permit with them to show the instructor at the beginning of each driving lesson as they must have it in order to drive. The student will need to be picked up by a parent/guardian from the last drive time as there is paperwork that needs to be signed by the parent/guardian and the driving instructor will talk to them about the student's progress.
If the student needs to cancel any of the driving lessons for any reason, it is the student's responsibility to let Mrs. Stockler know as soon as possible so that she can reschedule the drive.
Please note that it may take at least a week or so to process the paperwork with the state of Ohio once the student has completed their last drive time. The student's driving test must not be scheduled until the student/parent has received a final email from Mrs. Stockler with the Driver's Training Completion Certificate and the Final Parent Report. The student will then need to take the Driver's Training Completion Certificate with them to the driving test to provide proof that they have completed the driver's training program.
The paperwork packet can be picked up at Sheridan High School or printed from this web page (ready to be printed 2-sided). Paperwork can be picked up/dropped off in the Sheridan High School office from 7:30am-2:30pm Monday thru Friday. Click here to access the MOV ESC Driver's Training Program Application. The cover page of the packet explains how the program works and the back of the first page explains how to pay for the program. Please note that the state is very particular about the information on the completed paperwork. The parent information must match the information given when the student received the permit. In addition, there cannot be any scratch outs, strikethroughs, or correction tape/fluid on the application. The completed packet will need to be returned to Mrs. Stockler along with a copy of the student's permit and payment will need to be made before your child can get started in the program.
Email the Site Coordinator, Mrs. Stockler (astockler@nlsd.k12.oh.us), for more details and to get started with the program.
